Cultural norms are rules and expectations about what is good or bad that people follow depending on what their beliefs are. Beliefs are influenced by social media, movies, television, experiences and other people. Cultural norms can also be negative. Some examples are when celebrities commit violent actions that can be followed by their fans.
That’s why people should be influenced by the right role models. Chadwick Boseman was the perfect example of the type of celebrity people should follow. He influenced cultural norms by playing roles of important Black people. He was an advocate who empowered others to be a voice for Black lives. Chadwick Boseman spoke to the students at Howard University and has influenced many children. Some of these children have cancer and illnesses where they had to be in bed at a hospital.
In 2018, Chadwick Boseman spoke to graduates at Howard University. He told all of the students at Howard that if they set their mind to what they want to be, then they can achieve their goals. He started where the graduates were at, and became an actor, doctor, director, quintessential artist and writer. This just proves that people can do anything they set their mind to.
Chadwick Boseman was also an advocate and empowered others to be a voice for Black lives. He stood up for Black on Black violence and hnnored real-life heroes. “In 2018, a mass shooting happened at a Waffle House restaurant in Nashville. Later, Shaw established a GoFundMe to raise money for the victim’s family. Journalist Yashar Ali later created a GoFundme for Shaw himself” This is influential for everybody because Chadwick Bosewman supported the lives of the people who were involved in that attack and started to raise a charity to raise money for the victims for their loss and recovery.
Chadwick Boseman has influenced many young children and some of these children have cancer and illnesses where they have to be in bed at a hospital. “ Following Boseman’s death, St. Jude shared some posts on their social media pages honoring him and mentioning some of the ways he helped their patients. A young woman named Zoe who was receiving treatment for a brain tumor during her encounter with Boseman shared this: “Chadwick stood in the Pavilion to meet all the families there to see him, walked through St. Jude and visited Target House. Imagine the inner and physical strength it took for him to do that! The entire time he did it with a smile on his face. He was a hero in his movies and is a hero to us at St. Jude.” This shows that the patients at St. Jude’s have hope because a hero came to see them and inspired them to be strong and get through what they were going through.
Chadwick Boseman sets a really good example for kids and adults. He is a celebrity that influences cultural norms and inspires people all around the world to be strong, to be a hero and to stand up for Black lives.
